Super Typhoon Yolanda Rips Through the Philippines

On November 8th Super Typhoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan) made landfall in the Philippines. Though many were aware of the strength the storm possessed, few could actually imagine the destruction it would cause. Thousands have lost their homes and businesses, many cities are still without power, and numerous people are missing. The Philippine Red Cross estimates that at least 1,200 people were killed by the storm, but that number could grow as officials make their way to remote areas made nearly inaccessible by Yolanda.

In an effort to assist those affected, Forever Giving has decided to make a donation of $50,000 to the Philippine Red Cross to aid in the recovery and rebuilding of the affected areas. While Red Cross relief efforts are well underway, blocked roads, destroyed infrastructure and downed communication lines are making the response particularly challenging. They have been working tirelessly to gain access to these areas and continue to push towards survivors who are in need. Forever Giving's donation can hopefully assist in getting materials around the country and in these especially difficult conditions.

In addition to the $50,000 donation, Forever Giving has also dedicated our Paypal account to the Philippines from now through the end of November. Every dollar donated to our Paypal account will go towards the disaster relief in the Philippines. You can donate here.

We want to thank everyone who chooses to donate to Forever Giving. Because of you we are able to "Make a Difference" in the world. Salamat!

Forever Giving Reaches Children and Families in Hawaii

Severe illness can consume anyone, but when it is our children who are ill it is the most heart wrenching. Forever Giving has continually concerned itself with the well being of children and recently have found two organizations in Hawaii who are doing the same. HUGS and Hawaii Children's Cancer Foundation were the recipients of a generous grant from Forever Giving which was presented at the Forever Global Rally 2013 in Honolulu. And they were chosen for good reason... Hawaii Children's Cancer Foundation is an organization that focuses on assisting children and their families upon their diagnoses of cancer. In partnership with Forever Giving, Hawaii Children's Cancer Foundation will be donating $24,000 in financial assistance to families with children who are suffering from cancer. This will provide a cushion for families who may not be able to afford their mortgage, car payments, or even medical treatments not covered by insurance. Tara Humphreys, a representative from HCCF, shares "Often times one parent will leave their job in an effort to take care of their ailing child, and in turn their financials take a hit. Families struggle to meet bills and purchase food, we do our best to help with that."

In addition to financial assistance Forever Giving donated an additional $1,500 to HCCF's Kokua Basket project. These baskets are given to newly diagnosed children and their families. These "survival kits" contain everything from gift cards, stuffed animals, blankets, or anything else that may help comfort them during their hospital stay. It also contains a book that tells the family the type of cancer their child has and the treatment that is to come.

Hawaii Children's Cancer Foundation:

In addition to HCCF there was a donation made to:

Forever Giving's second contribution was made to HUGS. While HCCF focused on the financial and initial trauma of diagnoses, HUGS focuses on long term emotional, psychological, and social support. HUGS often times calls themselves a family because that is what they are there for, to strengthen families in the face of adversity. HUGS provides peer support groups, family events, emergency respite, and provides a place for these ill children to no longer be looked at as patients and just be kids. With Forever Giving's $24,000 donation, HUGS will be providing an Airfare Assistance Program to its families. This program will allow for families to transport their child to Oahu or the mainland for procedures not offered on their island. It will also provide family members on neighboring islands the ability to fly in to see these children in times of emergency. Ultimately it allows the family to be a family in times of need.

Forever Giving is pleased to have found two organizations in Hawaii that are providing a service to ill children and look forward to seeing the effects these donations will have on the families.

Providing Hope for the Future at Centre Féminin in Ivory Coast

In an underprivileged neighborhood located in Port-Bouët, Ivory Coast, one organization gives the young women who reside there a hope for a better future. The Centre Féminin Sainte Thérèse de l’Enfant Jésus (Saint Theresa Christ Child Feminine Centre) focuses on educating and training women to help them become self-sufficient and escape the dangerous environment in which they live, where many women turn to prostitution, drugs and other unhealthy means to make money. Through the Centre’s practical training in hair dressing, pastry-making, sewing, embroidery, and classes ranging from childcare to writing to mathematics, nearly 100 girls are given the opportunity to make a better life for themselves.
According to the Centre’s Executive Director, Sr Analia Cristina Coman, “Since the center opened we have 4 graduation years trained in sewing, pastry-making, hairdressing, and computer technology skills. Among the girls, some have found work in the center’s cooperative, others in families or independently work from home in their neighborhoods. Several girls were further motivated to pursue their studies at night school.”
To assist the organization in upholding its mission, Forever Giving partnered with Centre Féminin by providing support to the center’s initiatives. The funds donated by Forever Giving will enable the charity to purchase much-needed kitchen equipment for the center’s cooperative where the young women sell their baked goods; including major items such as a gas cooker, refrigerators, a freezer, and full range oven. Additional funding provided by Forever Giving for the purchase of classroom supplies, sewing machines and computer equipment will further equip the Centre with the tools it needs.
Thanks to the support and donations from Forever Giving and the many Forever Living Distributors who contribute to the organization, Centre Féminin will continue to make a difference in the lives of the women in Port-Bouët.

Join Us to Support the Japan Relief Efforts

Dear Forever Friends, Like all of you, I have been stunned by the recent events in Japan. I recall waking early to the news that there had been a massive earthquake just off the northeastern coast of Japan. My first reaction when I hear of disasters and troubles throughout the world is to do a quick mental inventory of where our staff and distributors are. I recalled immediately that we have large numbers of dedicated distributors that live in the affected area, and we began the process of trying to locate our Country Manager in Japan to see what was happening and how we could help. Rjay Lloyd and his wife Annie were also in Tokyo, and after a nervous couple of hours we were able to contact them and get an assessment of their safety and the situation there. Over 300km south of where the earthquake struck, Rjay and Annie felt the quake, which still registered over 7 on the Richter Scale at the office in Toyko. He told us buildings were swaying over 18" off center. Thankfully our office in Tokyo suffered only superficial damage and no one was hurt. However, it quickly became apparent that this was more than 'another earthquake'. It was a defining moment in world history. With the advice of our team in Tokyo, we reluctantly made the decision to postpone the Japanese Rally that was scheduled for the next week. With this decision made we were able to focus our efforts on doing what we could to help.

Miraculously, we are able to report that so far we have heard of no loss of life amongst our distributors. Sadly, though, many have lost their homes and ALL of their possessions; in some instances, their entire villages have been washed away. Obviously this level of devastation has created a massive need for humanitarian assistance, and I am proud to let you know that Forever has not been standing by. We immediately emptied our warehouse there of our products and gave them to our distributors, who have been an excellent distribution network making sure the product is getting to the people in need. We have sent truckloads of products, food and water from the south up to the stricken areas. Just yesterday we sent two more truckloads of food and water to those in need. We will continue to do what we can to help. But, without your help, we can only do so much.

Please take a moment today to give what you can. We understand there are needs throughout the world and appreciate that it might not be a good time to give to another 'cause'. However, all we ask is that you give what you can. The amount is not important; what is important is that we give something.

Thank You for Joining Us,

Forever Giving Supports IMDS to Impact Families in Brazil

We are very excited to announce that Forever Giving has chosen to support Instituto de Marques Salamanca (IMDS), an organization that works with low-income families living in the Santa Teresa area of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Forever Giving’s financial funding will help IMDS carry out its mission to make families stronger in Santa Teresa. IMDS’s integrated approach to child development focuses on strengthening the entire family unit by not only providing for children but their parents as well. In an area heavily populated with families made up of three to five children and mostly single mothers, IMDS provides childcare through their Creche Cantinho Feliz center or “Happy Home” for children ages 2 to 6 years old. This service is scarce in an area with only three childcare centers for 14,500 residents. In addition to receiving care, education and social development, the children are fed three meals a day to ensure that they do not go hungry. For many of these children, these are the only meals they’ll have all day.

To reach beyond the child and make an impact on the entire family unit, IMDS provides mothers with work opportunity by teaching them how to use their creative skills to generate an income. These lessons in entrepreneurship led to the formation of the brand Toque de Mao or “Touch of the Hand” which markets their handmade art.

We want to thank Forever Living Products Brazil and the distributors of Forever Living Products worldwide who have generously donated their time, money and products to support this project in Brazil. Thank you for helping us make a lasting difference for the families of Santa Teresa.

Announcing the launch of Forever-Giving.org

Forever Giving will partner with charitable organizations globally that share our passion for improving the human experience.Children are our future and Forever Giving will specifically focus on making a difference throughout the world by providing funds, facilities, and education to help fight against poverty, hunger, and the lack of medical services available for children. The foundation also supports relief efforts in response to natural disasters in the areas we operate and in our donor communities. Forever Giving will provide a transparent means for individuals to give, knowing that the funds will reach those in need.

Everybody, at some point, feels the urge to give. Perhaps this motivation comes from an inner appreciation of the people around us, or a realization that we have enough to spare a little, or maybe it comes from seeing the devastating effects of disasters throughout the world, whether man-made or natural.

We’ve all watched graphic images of the destruction of hope that occurs when a person’s ability to choose is removed, either by poverty, hunger, natural disaster or disease. Witnessing this suffering motivates us to look for a way to give of our excess, hoping to provide some relief.

The challenge then is how to give and how to get involved. This is where FOREVER GIVING comes in. One of our primary goals is to provide people just like you with a method to get involved, whether on a one time or a continual basis. We promise to put your generous contribution to work as you partner with us in the fight against poverty, hunger, natural disasters and disease.

We recognize that every single cent is sacred, and whether you give five dollars or one million dollars, your donation will be treated with the respect your generosity deserves. How much you give is not important. What is important is that you act now and join our fight against the destruction of hope, by partnering with people you know and trust.
