Providing Hope for the Future at Centre Féminin in Ivory Coast
In an underprivileged neighborhood located in Port-Bouët, Ivory Coast, one organization gives the young women who reside there a hope for a better future. The Centre Féminin Sainte Thérèse de l’Enfant Jésus (Saint Theresa Christ Child Feminine Centre) focuses on educating and training women to help them become self-sufficient and escape the dangerous environment in which they live, where many women turn to prostitution, drugs and other unhealthy means to make money. Through the Centre’s practical training in hair dressing, pastry-making, sewing, embroidery, and classes ranging from childcare to writing to mathematics, nearly 100 girls are given the opportunity to make a better life for themselves.
According to the Centre’s Executive Director, Sr Analia Cristina Coman, “Since the center opened we have 4 graduation years trained in sewing, pastry-making, hairdressing, and computer technology skills. Among the girls, some have found work in the center’s cooperative, others in families or independently work from home in their neighborhoods. Several girls were further motivated to pursue their studies at night school.”
To assist the organization in upholding its mission, Forever Giving partnered with Centre Féminin by providing support to the center’s initiatives. The funds donated by Forever Giving will enable the charity to purchase much-needed kitchen equipment for the center’s cooperative where the young women sell their baked goods; including major items such as a gas cooker, refrigerators, a freezer, and full range oven. Additional funding provided by Forever Giving for the purchase of classroom supplies, sewing machines and computer equipment will further equip the Centre with the tools it needs.
Thanks to the support and donations from Forever Giving and the many Forever Living Distributors who contribute to the organization, Centre Féminin will continue to make a difference in the lives of the women in Port-Bouët.
